(v1.03+ update: All graphedit releated questions were removed) (Warning: DirectVobSub is not needed for making burnt-in subtitles with VirtualDub or AviUtl, just an alternative solution) Q: How do I install this? A: Right click DVobSub.inf, select Install. If it asks for file locations, then show him. v2.01+ update: - No more .inf files, vobsub package is installed by NSIS. Q: OK, it is up, what now? A: - Index your DVD with VobSub, and place the two output file (.sub/.idx) next to the avi with the same filename title (e.g. matrix.avi and matrix.sub/matrix.idx). - Double click on your avi to watch. v1.07+ update: - DirectVobSub can open text based files generated by other subtitle rippers with the extension of .sub and .srt. The rules are similar, use the same file title OR subtite.sub/.srt to have them auto-loaded. v1.20+ update: - You may be wondering what unrar.dll is for in the package. Well, now you can compress vobsub's .sub file with winrar 2.0+ and DirectVobSub will be able to open it "on-the-fly". This way you can save a few megabytes on the cd. Make sure that the compressed file and the file compressed (huh) have also the same title as the rest of the subtitle files. (-> do not rename after compressing) v1.22+ update: - Multiple textual subtitles can be loaded at once (for differect languages). Add the name you would like to see in the Language menu of WMP64 like this: matrix.English.srt, matrix.Hungarian.sub, etc. v1.23+ update: - You can rename rar files, as long as there is only one .sub file in it (the right one) v1.24+ update: - Subtitles can be auto-loaded from c:\subtitles\ or the path under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Gabest\DirectVobSub\DefTextPathes\Path0 -> 9 - .smi support v1.27+ update: - Subtitle files are sorted after their file names. You can arrange the ordering in menu like this: movie.00.lang1.srt, movie.01.lang2.srt, etc. v1.28+ update: - You can load any kind of subtitles at once (vobsub, ssa, srt, sub, ...). Q: I have Pentium MMCXI and need an RGB output. A: Insert a Color Space Converter before DirectVobSub. v1.21+ update: - RGB no longer supported. Q: The subtitle colors are only black & white and have strange edges. A: The edge gets on an odd pixel value, and divides the color component with the background. If it were also colored, it would look more silly. If anybody understands this and have a solution, then don't hesitate to drop me a mail. (In RGB mode, the colors are the same like with the plugin.) v1.05+ update: - You can turn off setting the color component. v1.28+ update: - No transparencies anymore, looks nicer without it. v2.00+ update: - Transparent subs are back, but not fading. Q: No post-filtering or blocky resized picture. A: Try installing DirectX 8. Q: It plays choppy. A: Try turning Smooth, Transparency or Fade in/out off. VERY IMPORTANT, DO THIS BEFORE BURNING THE CD! :-) v1.28+ update: - Try the prebufferer function at the property page. If your CPU isn't fast enough, subtitles may get skipped in this mode (kinda buffer-underrun could happen). But if you're just on the edge or trying to render some larger SSA or vobsub subpictures then it will greatly help smoothing things out. Q: I have splitted my Avi/Mpg into multiple parts, what can I do? A: - Insert "delay: ..."s into the idx file and use multiple copies of the subtitle files (one for each avi). - Rejoin the files. - Use burnt-in subs. v1.11+ update: - Use the plugins built-in cutter to split, type "rundll32 vobsub.dll,Cutter". (If the .sub file was rar-ed, it will be output uncompressed again) v1.24+ update: - Forget about Cutter, use Subresync. v1.25+ update: - OK, the 'Cutter' might be easier to use for simple cutting :) Q: My .sub file is way to big and don't see why it would worth including it on the disc. A: - Index only the languages you want, one lang will be under 8-10 MB. v1.21+ update: - Use winrar to compress the .sub file. v1.28+ update: - ONLY the .sub file and it MUST be ripped by the vobsub plugin. Q: My subtitle files are burnt on the CD, but I'd like to watch without them. A: - Select "Hide Subtitles" under mediaplayer 6.x's "Language" submenu. - Access the filter's property page and check "Hide subtitles". - regsvr32 /u DVobSub.ax. Q: The picture is upside-down??? A: Access the property page and hit "Flip image vertically". OR Edit the registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Gabest\DirectVobSub\General\Flip = 1. v1.24+ update: OR Use the Language menu in mediaplayer 6.x Q: Blank picture, but audio plays. A: Believe it or not, you may have no divx decoder installed! At least not the directshow one (which is required) in case you were fooled by v3.22 or the Kristal pack (LOL ;-). Solution: Get the good old v3.11 (w/ or w/o the VKI dlls, as you like). v1.28+ update: - This problem seems to affect only NT, 2k, XP users. Q: After flipping the picture, the subtitles are upside-down. A: You're using an outdated version of directvobsub. Q: Any other blank picture releated problems. A: Check your video card if it has 8MB+ of video memory. Q: Just installed DirectX 8.1 or Windows XP (also comes with DX81) and can't run my .sub.avi any longer. A: It is NOT the problem of dvobsub. The "File Source (async)" filter can't locate the given source avi/wav file because it is now trying to search it in the root directory instead of where it was launched from. (You should know that the file names are saved with full path ordenary, but releaser groups strip the path in order to be able to run it after moving it to another directory or computer.) Q: The movie and the subtitles are both flipped and I can see the subs twice appearing. A: Make sure you don't have divxg400 and dvobsub installed at the same time. Q: How can I use my remote controller to change subtitle languages? A: You have to get your program (bremote, girder, ...) simulate a keypress for the following keys: VK_F13 - subs on/off (cycles) VK_F14 - subs on VK_F15 - subs off VK_F16 - next language VK_F17 - previous language Q: I got the movie Traffic and can't see the subtitles. A: Edit the idx file and change langidx: 0 to 1 Q: I still have a problem, how could I reach you? A: http://vobsub.edensrising.com, gabest@freemail.hu And don't forget to read the other FAQs too!
